Students with Additional Needs
Carlow Institute is committed to promoting equality of opportunity and access for Level 5 and Level 6 students who have a disability, specific learning difficulty or medical condition.
We endeavour, wherever possible, to make it easier for such students to access our courses and to participate in student life at the Institute. Our expectations of students and for students is that they are capable of engaging in classroom activity alongside their peers and in self-directed study so as to advance their quest for knowledge and certification.
Students with a Disability or Support Need have a responsibility to disclose their disability or support need during the early stages of our on-line registration process.
Subsequent information outlining the disability or support need should be made available immediately after registration. Once we have the relevant documentation, an application for additional support can commence.
Application for additional support funding will only be processed if accompanied by a consultant’s report of a disability or illness, or an educational psychological report in the case of specific learning difficulties.
All reports must be within the last five years (Educational psychological reports that are over five years old will not be accepted).
Please note that reports must be from either a Consultant or Educational Psychologist only – letters from General Practitioners (GP) or support organisations will be not be accepted.
Late application may result in additional support being delayed.
Applicants must meet certain nationality and residency criteria to be funded.
Appropriate support is subject to approval and requisite resources being available.
