Carlow Institute is within walking distance of the town centre. Carlow is also home to two Higher Education providers – South East Technological University (SETU) and Carlow College – making it a student-friendly destination with a great mix of services, nightlife and leisure facilities. Carlow is an incredibly popular choice for students with plenty of opportunities to meet new people and make new friends.

Culture

VISUAL Carlow is an award-winning Creative Arts complex in the town centre. The centre hosts regular exhibitions of national and international artists, and a vibrant programme of film, music, drama and dance. As partners, Creative Arts students from Carlow Institute work with VISUAL/George Bernard Shaw on events and productions. Further afield, you can access festivals and events including music, literature and arts. For those who like the spot-light, there are local performing groups, and cultural and historical societies to join.

Sport

Carlow is home to many sporting opportunities. You will find Carlow Rugby club, Carlow Lawn Tennis Club, Carlow Athletics, Carlow Rowing Club, many GAA clubs and other sports pursuits within easy reach. Carlow town has many sport and leisure centres, and Carlow Institute students can avail of student memberships for many of these.

Further Afield

You will find plenty to do in Carlow, but if you want the buzz of a big city, Dublin, Kilkenny and Waterford are in easy reach by public transport, with regular train and bus connections. If you prefer the outdoors, Carlow is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with walking, mountain-biking, angling, golf and equestrian within easy reach. Getting Here

Our new campus is within walking and cycling distance of the town centre, with street-lighting and cycle-tracks. We have over 200 first-come, first-served parking spaces available to students.

Dedicated parking is provided for students with disabilities, and the new site is fully accessible.

We welcome students from all over Ireland and beyond to Carlow Institute. Public town bus routes and dedicated student bus routes terminate at our location in the morning and leave from here in the evening after classes finish.

Carlow is served by a main-line train station, and an extensive network of public and private bus and coach operators, serving the surrounding counties.
