The Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) provides adults with free, second-chance education and training in a supportive learning atmosphere. Applicants must meet the criteria detailed below.

If you are:

  • Aged 21 or over
  • Receiving certain social welfare payments for six months or more

you may be eligible for payments under the VTOS scheme.

VTOS Criteria (Levels 4, 5 and 6)

If you are 21 or over and on a social welfare payment for more than six months you can apply for VTOS. In some circumstances additional allowances are available for learners.

Aged Between 21 and 25:

  • your age-related social welfare payment will be increased to the maximum rate while you attend the VTOS course
  • financial support towards the cost of travel and a small meal allowance is offered as part of this funding
  • additional educational supports may also be available

Aged 25 and over:

  • financial support towards the cost of travel and a small meal allowance is offered as part of this funding
  • additional educational supports may also be available
